Oxford Child Development Centre’s daycare is located in the heart of Rio Terrace in West Edmonton.  The daycare centre has its own private backyard and play structures providing the children with a multitude of experiences, as well as an enclosed baby park for the younger children. We are very close to public amenities such as Rio Terrace playground and spray park, and the Patricia Ravine Trail. We provide a nutritious morning and afternoon snack, a quiet rest time, outdoor play daily, summer field trips, and meaningful learning activities.  Our learning experiences are child-interest based and open-ended, to encourage optimum growth in development.

The centre has four rooms:

Sunshine Room 12 – 18 months

Our infant program is organized and programmed specifically with the needs of these young children at heart. The early childhood educators in the rooms work to create program plans that support the individual needs of each child and the group. Through stimulating activities, the children take part in a range of activities from open ended art experiences, outdoor play, community walks in our large stroller sets and LOTS of sensory play. The bright and open room invites the children to experience the world around and welcomes families as they begin their journey in our center.

Rainbow Corner 19 months – 3 years

This age group is full of curiosity and questions as they are trying to understand the world around them. Our Learning Through Play philosophy is modeled in this classroom with developmentally appropriate and stimulating activities that are based of the children’s interest, and their developmental needs. Our day introduces the children exciting activities in dramatic play, open ended art experiences, building, outdoor play, music, lots of sensory and plenty of stories, games and songs. We work closely with the children as they build on their self-help skills and take every opportunity to boost their confidence by celebrating their milestones.

Shooting Stars 3 – 4 years

Using our knowledge on optimal development, we build programs that help scaffold the children’s learning, supporting them from beginner to mastering new skills such as cutting and early literacy skills. The room is broken into intentional learning centers varying from dramatic, little world play, sensory, building, literacy, science and many more that the children flow through and choose what activities they would like to take part in.  With an emergent curriculum approach and a Learning Through Play philosophy, we build activities around children’s interest and encourage them to play together, and independently, as they explore the activities around them.
